Bimhuis

Bimhuis

Bimhuis is Amsterdam's premier jazz venue, housed inside the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in the Eastern Docklands. It has been at the centre of the city's jazz and improvised music scene for over fifty years, programming around 300 concerts annually across jazz, world music, experimental improvisation, and related forms. The amphitheatre-style concert hall seats just over 200 people, with sightlines and acoustics that make every position in the room a good one. The booking policy is consistently excellent: Dutch and Belgian jazz alongside international artists at the serious end of the circuit, with a particular strength in improvised and creative music. The Tuesday jam sessions in the Bimhuis café are free to attend and reliably interesting, a weekly gathering point for Amsterdam's working musicians and serious listeners alike. The venue sits within Muziekgebouw's broader complex, which means a high-quality restaurant, waterfront terrace, and regular crossover programming with the main hall. Bimhuis membership offers discounts on concerts and is worth considering for jazz regulars. The building is a short tram ride from Centraal Station along the IJ waterfront.
