Treehouse NDSM is Amsterdam's premier underground club, built inside a cavernous former shipyard warehouse at the NDSM wharf in Noord. Getting there requires a free ferry from behind Centraal Station — a crossing that takes about fifteen minutes and has become part of the ritual: the water, the industrial skyline, the sense of leaving the city centre behind. It sets the mood before you arrive.
The club programmes on weekends and occasional special nights, with a focus on electronic music in its more uncompromising forms: techno, house, drum and bass, and experimental club music. The space is raw and industrial — exposed pipes, concrete floors, high ceilings — with a sound system built to match the room. The booking philosophy leans toward respected underground acts over recognisable names: resident DJs have real authority over the sound, and international guests tend to come from the thoughtful end of the circuit.
The crowd reflects this: mostly serious music fans and regulars from Amsterdam's electronic scene, with a notable contingent from across the Netherlands who make the trip specifically for Treehouse nights. It's not a tourist club. If you're in Amsterdam and care about electronic music, it's the first place to check.
